Attended from Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., where he went 15-18 with a 3.69 ERA (102 ER/249.0 IP) in three collegiate seasons, with 103 walks and 271 strikeouts...With 108 strikeouts during his junior season at Hofstra, set a single-season program record. Is also Hofstra's career leader in strikeouts...Pitched one season for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League, going 1-2 with a 4.38 ERA (18 ER/37.0 IP), 15 walks and 29 strikeouts in 2017...Played baseball and basketball at Hoosic Valley High School in Schaghticoke, N.Y...Finished high school career at 35-0 on the mound, including an 11-0 mark, 0.51 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 2014...His father played football at Union College. Has one brother, Joe, who played baseball at Clarkson...Started playing baseball at age six...Member of the 2014 and 2015 New York Class C baseball championship teams. Was named the 2015 New York State Class C Baseball Player of the Year and the Class C Player of the Year in both baseball and basketball in 2014. Named to All-Small School Section 2 first team in baseball and basketball in 2014. Named the 2015 Troy Record Athlete of the Year.

Spent the entire campaign with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Went 5-2 with a 4.33 ERA (29 ER/60.1 IP) in 53 relief appearances. Walked 32 batters against 71 strikeouts...Led the club in appearances, was tied for first in wins (w/ Jack Dreyer) and ranked third in strikeouts behind Landon Knack (79) and Ben Casparius (72)...His 53 apps. matched his career-high in games set in 2023...Converted one of three save opportunities and was credited with six holds...Left-handed batters went 20-for-72 (.278) against Rooney with a .896 OPS, while right-handed batters were 38-for-154 (.247) with a .716 OPS.
