LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of catcher Dalton Rushing and designated catcher Austin Barnes for assignment.
Rushing, 24, was hitting .308 with five homers and 17 RBI in Triple-A Oklahoma City. The No. 1 prospect in the Dodgers’ organization has been in the organization four seasons, clubbing 54 homers and driving in 185 runs with a .931 OPS. The 2024 Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year hit 26 homers and drove in 85 runs last season between Double-A and Triple-A. He was originally drafted in the second round of the 2022 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Louisville.
Barnes, 35, hit .214 with three doubles and two RBI this season. The two-time World Series Champion has been with the Dodgers 11 seasons, playing 612 games and recording 35 homers and 162 RBI. He held a .992 fielding percentage in 3,813 innings. He was acquired by the Dodgers via trade in 2014 from the Miami Marlins with Andrew Heaney, Chris Hatcher and Kiké Hernández in exchange for Dee Strange-Gordon, Dan Haren and Miguel Rojas.
