PHOENIX -- The Dodgers are proceeding cautiously with left-hander Blake Snell, who is still feeling discomfort in his throwing shoulder and did not resume playing catch during the team's 10-game road trip, as was previously expected.
Both Snell and right-hander Tyler Glasnow, who is also on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation, will meet with team doctors on Monday for a check-in. Manager Dave Roberts said the team felt it was best if Snell saw a doctor before resuming throwing.
Glasnow began playing catch over the weekend. Roberts said there are no indications that Glasnow is feeling any residual plain in his throwing shoulder.
When Snell was placed on the 15-day IL on April 6, the Dodgers were optimistic that he would miss minimal time. The level of concern has changed some, but it's unclear to what extent.
"I guess I can answer that question more once he sees our team doctors," Roberts said.
Snell was initially shut down from throwing for a week when he went on the IL, after which he resumed playing catch. He progressed to throwing a bullpen session and had been set for another when the Dodgers were in Chicago on April 23, but plans for that second session on the mound were scrapped when he felt poorly after playing catch the day before.
Since then, Snell has gotten a pain-killing injection in his shoulder. He traveled with the Dodgers on their road trip through Atlanta, Miami and Phoenix, with the expectation that he would begin playing catch during the three-game series at loanDepot park. Snell did not throw then, and the reason given at the time was that he was feeling under the weather.
Snell posted a 2.00 ERA in two starts before being sidelined. He joined the Dodgers on a five-year, $182 million deal this past offseason.
