You have to see this jaw-dropping Double-A candidate for Catch of the Year

It might have been easy for anyone following the Gameday feed for Wednesday's contest between Double-A New Hampshire and Akron to overlook the first play of the bottom of the fourth inning.

That is exactly what happened, but it vastly underplays one of the most no-holds-barred defensive web gems of the Minor League season during the Fisher Cats' 6-2 victory over the RubberDucks at Canal Park.

Martinez ranged to the right-center power alley to make an all-out over-the-shoulder grab in the wall. The 23-year-old Blue Jays prospect tracked the ball in a full sprint the whole way and never slowed down, extending his glove at the last second to snatch away extra bases from the Guardians' third-ranked prospect (MLB No. 57). Martinez seemed to plant his cleats in the wall while making the catch, then he bounced backward onto the ground.

The play was so improbable that Akron broadcaster Jim Clark initially thought Martinez was unable to make the play. But sure enough, as soon the Venezuela native got back to his feet, he raised his glove in triumph.

As if the feat didn't speak for itself, one of the game's most highly touted defensive outfielders gave it a stamp of approval as well. Kevin Kiermaier, the 2015 Platinum Glove award winner, was on the scene in his role as a Blue Jays special assistant, working with Martinez and other outfielders in their farm system.

Martinez is no stranger to highlight-reel plays. In June, he made a diving backhanded grab in left field for New Hampshire, and he perfectly timed a leaping catch into the bullpen in right field for the Fisher Cats just over a year ago.

Kiermaier and now the rest of us will surely be keeping an eye on what type of circus catch Martinez might pull off next.
