CHICAGO -- Thursday night's contest between the Guardians and the White Sox has been postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a split-ticket doubleheader on Friday, with the makeup game starting at 2:10 p.m. CT/3:10 ET and the regularly scheduled game at 7:10 p.m. CT/8:10 ET.
Thursday’s first pitch, scheduled for 6:40 p.m. CT, was delayed before the start, although it was not raining at the time. The rain arrived shortly thereafter and was in the forecast for the rest of the evening.
Logan Allen, who was Thursday's probable starter, will start Game 1 for the Guardians, and Gavin Williams (Friday’s probable) is set to start Game 2. Cleveland is 2-2 in doubleheaders this season. The Guardians split a twin bill with the Red Sox on April 26 and another with the Nationals on May 6. Cleveland also played a pair of games on May 21, against the Twins, but that included their suspended contest from May 20.
All-Star Shane Smith will get the call in Game 1 for the White Sox. Jonathan Cannon, who was Thursday’s scheduled starter, will pitch the nightcap.
“He's a professional,” said White Sox manager Will Venable of Cannon. “He understands how to navigate traffic, and I know he's got different ways to get guys out and he's able to draw on those options in different spots and able to eliminate runs when he does get traffic. He's just a guy that knows how to pitch.”
Game tickets, parking passes and Stadium Club passes from Thursday’s postponed contest only will be honored at Friday’s 2:10 p.m. makeup game. Fans do not need to exchange game tickets, parking passes or Stadium Club passes to attend the rescheduled game.
As part of the 2005 World Series 20-year reunion weekend, the Mark Buehrle statue unveiling ceremony remains scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. CT. Thursday’s promotional White Sox Yacht Rock Hat was distributed on Thursday. Friday’s originally scheduled 2005 Champs Hawaiian Shirt giveaway will be given to the first 15,000 fans entering the park for the 7:10 p.m. start.
Parking lots will open at 12:10 p.m. CT. Gates for Game 1 will open at 1:10 p.m. and gates for Game 2 will open at 5:40 p.m.
