LHP John King
Injury: Left side
IL date: July 30 (15-day IL)
Expected return: Mid-August
Status: Retired the first two batters he faced on July 29 before immediately grabbing at his left side following a pitch. Worked out on July 30 and was diagnosed with a left oblique strain. (Updated: July 30)
LF Lars Nootbaar
Injury: Left costochondral sprain
IL date: July 13 (10-day IL)
Expected return: Late July/Early August
Status: Slated to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on July 30. Can swing fully again without pain and will initially serve as DH before working his way up to playing the field. (Updated: July 28)
2B Nolan Gorman
Injury: Lower back pain
IL date: July 19 (10-day IL, retroactive to July 18)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Slated to start a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on July 29. The hope is he will rejoin the Cardinals after a short stint. (Updated: July 27)
LHP Zack Thompson
Injury: Left lat strain (Grade 1)
IL date: March 27 (transferred to 60-day IL on April 7)
Expected return: TBD
Status: Manager Oliver Marmol said July 24 that Thompson had “a setback” in his recovery but that he was scheduled to begin a throwing program at some point the following week. It’s unclear at this point if there is enough time remaining in the season for Thompson to return to game action. (Updated: July 24)
