Altuve (right foot discomfort) pulled from game in abundance of caution

ATLANTA -- Astros second baseman is day to day after being removed from Saturday’s 6-2 win against the Braves in the third inning with right foot discomfort.

Altuve left the game after hitting a third-inning single and then getting forced out at second base on a fielder’s choice. He ran off the field with no noticeable limp and was replaced defensively at second base in the bottom of the inning by Ramón Urías.

“When he ran the base on that [fielder’s choice], he said, ‘My foot is bothering me,’” Astros manager Joe Espada said. “We took him out just to be cautious.”

Altuve was spotted sitting in the dugout a few innings later and was walking around the clubhouse postgame, though he declined an interview through a team spokesman.

Altuve, who went 1-for-2 on Saturday, went 2-for-4 and swatted a solo homer -- his 25th of the season -- in Friday’s 11-3 win over the Braves. He entered Saturday leading the Astros in games played, at-bats, hits and home runs.
