BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed right-handed pitcher Liam Hendriks on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to May 28) with right hip inflammation. To fill his spot, the club recalled right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi from Triple-A Worcester.
Hendriks, 36, has made 14 appearances this season, posting a 6.59 ERA (10 ER/13.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts. Originally signed by the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on February 25, 2007, the Australia native owns a 3.88 ERA (286 ER/663.2 IP) with 116 saves and 739 strikeouts in 490 career games (44 starts) with the Twins (2011-13), Kansas City Royals (2014), Toronto Blue Jays (2014-15), Oakland Athletics (2016-20), Chicago White Sox (2021-23), and Red Sox (2025).
Burdi, 32, has tossed 2.1 scoreless innings over a pair of relief appearances for Boston. The right-hander has also pitched in 15 games for Worcester, going 4-0 with 4 saves, a 0.48 ERA (1 ER/18.2 IP), 26 strikeouts, and a 0.80 WHIP. Selected by the Minnesota Twins in the second round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Illinois native owns a 5.93 ERA (18 ER/27.1 IP) in 33 career Major League games with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2018-20), Chicago Cubs (2023), New York Yankees (2024), and Red Sox (2025).
