BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed left-handed pitcher Brennan Bernardino on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to September 10) with a left lat strain. To fill his spot, Boston recalled left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy from Triple-A Worcester.
Bernardino, 33, owns a 3.14 ERA (18 ER/51.2 IP) and .205 opponent batting average (39-for-190) in 55 games (three starts) for Boston this season. The left-hander has also posted a 2.25 ERA (1 ER/4.0 IP) in four games for Worcester. Originally selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has recorded a 3.47 ERA (60 ER/155.2 IP) in 169 career Major League games (12 starts) for the Seattle Mariners (2022) and Red Sox (2023-25).
Murphy, 27, has pitched in 17 games for Boston this season, going 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA (8 ER/25.2 IP) and .157 opponent batting average (14-for-89). The left-hander also owns a 2.93 ERA (9 ER/27.2 IP) in 18 minor league games (five starts), including a 3.38 ERA (8 ER/21.1 IP) in 13 games (two starts) for Worcester. Selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.17 ERA (34 ER/73.1 IP) with 70 strikeouts in 37 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2023, 2025).
