BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder Marcelo Mayer on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to July 24) with a right wrist sprain. To fill his spot, Boston recalled infielder David Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester.
Mayer, 22, has played in 44 games this season, his Major League debut, batting .228 (29-for-127) with eight doubles, one triple, and four home runs. The left-handed hitter has made 28 starts at third base and seven at second base. Selected by the Red Sox in the first round (No. 4 overall) of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has also played in 43 games this season for Worcester, batting .271 (46-for-170) with an .818 OPS.
Hamilton, 27, has played in 62 games this season, batting .179 (22-for-123) with three doubles and three home runs. The left-handed hitter has also played in four games for Worcester, making two starts at shortstop and two at second base. Originally selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the eighth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has hit .220 (99-for-450) with 50 stolen bases in 175 career games, all with the Red Sox (2023-25).
