BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Recalled right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell from Triple-A Worcester.
- Recalled right-handed pitcher Zack Kelly from Worcester.
- Placed right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi on the 15-Day Injured List with a right foot contusion.
- Optioned right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts to Worcester.
Criswell, 28, has appeared in three games this season for Boston, allowing eight runs (five earned) in 4.1 innings. The right-hander has also posted a 1.52 ERA (5 ER/29.2 IP) with a 0.94 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in seven games (six starts) for Worcester. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Angels in the 13th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Georgia native owns a 4.78 ERA (75 ER/141.1 IP) in 41 career Major League games (20 starts) with the Angels (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024-25).
Kelly, 30, has made eight appearances for Boston this season, recording an 8.25 ERA (11 ER/12.0 IP) with 11 strikeouts. The right-hander has also recorded an 8.25 ERA (11 ER/12.0 IP) in 11 games (one start) for Worcester. Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Oakland Athletics in 2017, the Virginia native owns a 4.52 ERA (46 ER/91.2 IP) with 89 strikeouts in 78 career games (three starts), all with Boston (2022-25).
Burdi, 32, has tossed 5.1 scoreless innings over four relief appearances for Boston. The right-hander has also pitched in 15 games for Worcester, going 4-0 with four saves, a 0.48 ERA (1 ER/18.2 IP), 26 strikeouts, and a 0.80 WHIP. Originally selected by the Minnesota Twins in the second round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the Illinois native owns a 5.34 ERA (18 ER/30.1 IP) in 35 career Major League games with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2018-20), Chicago Cubs (2023), New York Yankees (2024), and Red Sox (2025).
Fitts, 25, started last night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels. The right-hander is 0-3 with a 4.71 ERA (11 ER/21.0 IP) in five starts for Boston this season. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the sixth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Alabama native owns a 3.24 ERA (15 ER/41.2 IP) with 24 strikeouts in nine career Major League games, all starts for the Red Sox (2024-25).
