Kevin McGonigle, the newly anointed No. 2 prospect in baseball, paced a homer-happy night around the Minors, slugging a pair for the first time in his professional career. Fellow Top 100 prospects JJ Wetherholt, Franklin Arias, Owen Caissie, Cooper Pratt and Jeferson Quero got in on the long ball fun, and Ethan Holliday kicked off his pro career with a pair of hits. Although offense ruled the day, Josh Bostick made sure pitchers got a share of the spotlight with a dominating 14-strikeout performance at High-A.
Kevin McGonigle, SS, Erie (DET No. 1/MLB No. 2)
McGonigle celebrated his rise in MLB Pipeline's rerank with his first two-homer game as a pro. The 20-year-old connected on a two-run jack in the opening frame, added a sacrifice fly in the second and then a cracked a solo shot in the fourth to complete his four-RBI night. The move to Double-A hasn't slowed down McGonigle, who is slashing .289/.384/.566 with 13 extra-base hits and 22 RBIs in 22 games for Erie. Gameday
JJ Wetherholt, SS/2B, Memphis (STL No. 1/MLB No. 6)
Wetherholt's penchant for early roundtrippers continued when he stepped to the plate first for Triple-A Memphis and hit the ball out once again, his sixth such homer and seventh in 83 at-bats since joining the club last month. The West Virginia product added a single later in the contest and sports a .301/.417/.513 slash line with 45 extra-base hits in 84 games across two Minor League levels this year. Gameday
Ethan Holliday, SS, Fresno (COL No. 2/MLB No. 17)
Holliday officially joined father Matt and brother Jackson in the professional ranks, debuting with a pair of hits -- a double and a single -- for Single-A Fresno. The fourth overall pick in last month's Draft was Gatorade's Oklahoma Player of the Year after slashing .611/.743/1.295 with 19 homers and 64 RBIs in his senior year at Stillwater High School. Franklin Arias, SS, Greenville (BOS No. 1/MLB No. 24)
Arias snapped a brief 0-fer with his sixth roundtripper of the season, a three-run tater that proved to be the difference for High-A Greenville. Although the Venezuela native has slumped after a hot start, he will end the season as one of the younger prospects playing in the South Atlantic League at just 19 years old. Arias added a single, giving him four multihit performances in his past 10 games. Gameday
Owen Caissie, OF, Iowa (CHC No. 1/MLB No. 45)
Caissie continued his sizzling summer with another three-hit performance, punctuated by his 22nd long ball which equaled a career high set in 2023. The 22-year-old has been one of the Minors' best hitters since June, slashing .343/.438/.680 in 49 games with 30 extra-base hits -- including 15 homers -- and 32 RBIs. Caissie's 22 roundtrippers are tied for third in the Triple-A International League. Gameday
Cooper Pratt, SS, Biloxi (MIL No. 3/MLB No. 53)
Pratt broke out with his best offensive outing of the year, homering and delivering a walk-off hit to cap a career-high four-RBI night. In addition to his sixth roundtripper of the season, the 20-year-old singled twice, including a two-out knock up the middle that plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth for the Shuckers. Pratt has spent the entire season at Double-A after appearing in 96 Single-A and High-A games last year. Gameday
Jeferson Quero, C, Nashville (MIL No. 4/MLB No. 65)
Quero hit his first homer since July 12 and and equaled a career high with five RBIs to account for all of Triple-A Nashville's runs. The 22-year-old has hit safely in three of four games since returning from his second IL stint of the season. Quero, who also missed the first five weeks of the season with a strained hamstring, has 10 extra-base hits and 25 RBIs in 34 games for the Sounds. Gameday
Tirso Ornelas, OF, El Paso (SD No. 11)
Playing in his third game after missing seven weeks with an unspecified injury, Ornelas went deep for the first time since May 12 ... and added another for good measure. The 25-year-old clubbed a pair of two-run jacks for his first multihomer game since last Sept. 22. Ornelas, who made his big league debut for San Diego in April, is batting .291 with an .804 OPS as well as 17 extra-base hits in 50 games for the Chihuahuas. Gameday
Josh Bostick, RHP, Eugene (Not ranked, SF)
Bostick fashioned one of the Minors' most dominant pitching performances of the season, striking out a career-high 14 over six innings for High-A Eugene. The 23-year-old allowed a run on four hits -- three of them in the opening inning -- before retiring 15 of 16. Bostick fanned nine of the last 10 batters he faced during his third double-digit strikeout effort of the season. Gameday
