Six pitches. Three stolen bases. One electrifying trip around the bases for Cole Carrigg.
The Rockies’ No. 2 prospect took matters into his own hands -- or rather, his legs -- during Double-A Hartford's 6-3 extra-inning loss to Reading at Dunkin’ Park on Friday night.

In the third inning, the switch-hitting center fielder ripped a sinking liner under the glove of second baseman Nick Dunn for a single. From there, Carrigg went to work.
On the very next pitch, he took off and swiped second with ease, claiming the top spot in the Double-A Eastern League with 38 steals.
That wasn’t enough. On the following pitch, the 23-year-old broke for third and beat catcher Caleb Ricketts' throw.
As Griff McGarry began his delivery, Carrigg broke for home. The Reading right-hander rushed an off-balance toss to the plate, but it sailed high as Carrigg slid in safely.
The trio of thefts marked Carrigg’s 38th, 39th and 40th stolen bases of the season. He swiped 51 bags last year, good for 12th in the Minors.
Stealing second, third and home in the same inning? It’s rare. The feat has only been accomplished 15 times at the Major League level in the Expansion Era (since 1961) -- most recently by the Reds' Elly De La Cruz on July 8, 2023, who, incredibly, stole all three bags in the same at-bat.

As Ken Griffey Jr. quipped in Little Big League: “Just for that, I’m taking second, then I’m taking third. I might even take home.”
Carrigg didn’t fall for the hidden ball trick like Griffey -- instead, he turned elite reads and plus wheels into one of the slickest scoring sequences you’ll see all year.
