Top college Draft prospects headline Golden Spikes Award finalists

June 4th, 2025

One of these three players will be this year's Golden Spikes Award winner.

Wittling the semifinalist field down from 25, USA Baseball on Wednesday released the names of the three finalists for the prestigious honor, given annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

The finalists are: Arkansas shortstop Wehiwa Aloy (Draft No. 25), Tennessee left-hander Liam Doyle (Draft No. 9) and Florida State shortstop Alex Lodise (Draft No. 45).

The 47th Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 21 on ESPN at 6:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. CT prior to first pitch of Game 1 of the Men’s College World Series finals.

When USA Baseball released its 25-player semifinalist list in mid-May, it included 13 players ranked among MLB Pipeline’s Top 150 Draft prospects. The final three-man field is comprised entirely of players ranked within the top 45, with one, Doyle, in the top 10.

Aloy, the Razorbacks junior shortstop, has been one of college baseball's most electrifying players this season. The Wailuku, Hawaii, native is slashing .355/.440/.686 with 20 home runs and 64 RBIs through 59 games and was recently crowned Southeastern Conference Player of the Year.

The SEC's Pitcher of the Year, the left-handed Doyle is Tennessee's ace. He leads the nation in total strikeouts (158) and strikeouts per nine innings (15.5) while boasting a 10-3 record and a 2.84 ERA in 18 appearances.

Lodise earned ACC Player of the Year honors in a breakout season for the Seminoles. He ranks 10th nationally in hits (92), 11th in batting average (.405), and 12th in total bases (167), while sporting 17 homers, 67 RBIs and a .736 slugging percentage. Lodise is believed to be the first player in major college or professional baseball history to complete the cycle with a walk-off grand slam, doing so on March 25 against Florida, one of his five game-winning hits in 2025.

All three players helped their respective programs advance to a NCAA Super Regional this past weekend.

Fan voting for the 2025 Golden Spikes Award resumed with Wednesday's announcement, and will run through June 12 on GoldenSpikesAward.com. The 2025 award will ultimately be decided by a varied voting voting body including national baseball media, select professional baseball personnel and USA Baseball staff, and the previous winners of the award,

Last year, Rockies first-rounder Charlie Condon – No. 27 on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list – was crowned the winner after slugging a BBCOR-era record 37 big flies and posting an NCAA leading .443 batting average and 1.565 OPS in 60 contests.
