What is Home Run Derby X?
MLB Home Run Derby X is a new 3-on-3 baseball format built around power hitting and athletic catching.
It combines the most exciting elements of the 9-inning game into a 30 minute format that’s fast, exciting, and lots of fun to watch and play.
Home Run Derby X is specifically designed as a co-ed format that allows male and female athletes to compete together.
What are the rules and how is Home Run Derby X different to regular baseball?
HRDX is a team-based Home Run Derby – but we’ve added defense too.
A single game takes 30 minutes. 3 players per team. Each player gets 1 at bat of 2 ½ minutes. During an at bat the opposing team is in the outfield.
Teams earn offensive points for hitting home runs and defensive points for making catches. At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins.
Each event features four teams with each team led by an MLB legend. Two semi-finals. One final. Non-stop action.
Where will Home Run Derby X be held this year?
This summer, 16 teams will feature across 6 qualifying events in Atlanta, Round Rock, Durham, Oklahoma City, Des Moines, and a sixth venue to be announced.
Winners guarantee their place at the Finals Weekend in Salt Lake City where the 2025 Derby X champion will be crowned.
What is the objective of Home Run Derby X?
MLB has been developing this format since 2022. Home Run Derby X has built a proven track record of attracting new, younger, and more female fans to the game. It is one part of a broad league-wide effort to increase access to baseball and softball for new fans in the US and internationally.

How many people are on a team?
There are three players per team, plus a BP pitcher.
Who will be playing?
A mix of MLB former MLB players, the best active players from women’s baseball and softball and selected male players from local college baseball programs. Full details of the teams will be revealed before each event.
