Trout (skin infection) scratched from lineup

KANSAS CITY -- ’s quest to reach the 400-home run milestone is on hold.

Trout was originally listed in the Angels’ lineup prior to Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Royals at Kauffman Stadium as the designated hitter batting third, but was scratched with a skin infection shortly before first pitch. He is being listed as day to day.

"It was one of those weird things that crept up on him today," said interim manager Ray Montgomery postgame. "We'll reevaluate it [Wednesday] and see what's going on."

Trout, who is hitting .231 with 20 homers and 54 RBIs, needs only two homers to become the third player in an Angels uniform to hit 400 homers. Dave Winfield accomplished the feat in 1991 and Vladimir Guerrero also reached the mark in 2009.

Lately, Trout has been trying to find himself at the plate. He hit .214 in August with just one home run in 84 at-bats.

Without Trout, the Angels moved Jo Adell, who was originally slated to play right field, to DH while inserting Chris Taylor to play right.
