RED SOX ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
Selected left-handed pitcher Connelly Early to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 71.
Placed right-handed pitcher Dustin May on the 15-Day Injured List (retroactive to September 6) with right elbow neuritis.
Recalled infielder Vaughn Grissom from Triple-A Worcester and placed him on the 60-Day Injured List with plantar fasciitis.
Early, 23, will start and make his Major League debut tonight against the Athletics. Ranked by Baseball America and MLB.com as the Red Sox’ No. 6 prospect, the left-hander has pitched in 21 games (18 starts) this season between Double-A Portland (15 games, 12 starts) and Triple-A Worcester (six starts), going 10-3 with a 2.60 ERA (29 ER/100.1 IP), 1.11 WHIP, .197 opponent average (71-for-361), and 132 strikeouts. Selected by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, the Virginia native has pitched in 45 career minor league games (42 starts), recording a 3.32 ERA (76 ER/206.0 IP) with 274 strikeouts.
May, 28, has pitched in six games (five starts) for Boston since being acquired from the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 31, posting a 5.40 ERA (17 ER/28.1 IP) with 26 strikeouts. The right-hander also pitched in 19 games (18 starts) for the Dodgers this season, posting a 4.85 ERA (56 ER/104.0 IP) with 97 strikeouts. Selected by the Dodgers in the third round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has gone 19-20 with a 3.86 ERA (139 ER/324.0 IP) in 71 career Major League games (57 starts) with the Dodgers (2019-23, 2025) and Red Sox (2025).
Grissom, 24, has played 96 games for Worcester this season, hitting .270 (100-for-370) with 24 doubles, 13 home runs, 48 RBI, and 69 runs scored. Originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 11th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has hit .255 (82-for-321) with 12 doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 33 RBI in 95 career Major League games with the Braves (2022-23) and Red Sox (2024).
