DODGERS ACTIVATE ALEX VESIA
LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated left-handed pitcher Alex Vesia and optioned right-handed pitcher Ben Casparius.
Vesia, 29, has been out since August 23 with a right oblique strain. He made two rehab appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, striking out three in two innings. He has pitched in 59 games for the Dodgers and he is 3-2 with a 2.75 ERA. He has been with the Dodgers five seasons, going 18-12 with a 2.60 ERA in 286 career games with Los Angeles. He made his Major League debut with the Marlins in 2020, pitching in five games and posting a 18.69 ERA. He was acquired on February 12, 2021 from Miami along with Kyle Hurt in exchange for Dylan Floro.
Casparius, 26, has pitched in 46 games, going 7-5 with a 4.64 ERA. He has been with the Dodgers two seasons, recording a 9-5 record with a 4.40 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 86 innings. He was drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2021 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Connecticut. He pitched in 79 games in the minor leagues prior to joining the big club, posting a 4.62 ERA with a 14-17 record and 346 strikeouts in 292 innings.
