BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 38. To make room on the active roster, Boston optioned left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy to Worcester following last night’s game against the Athletics.
Harrison, 24, has gone 4-2 with a 3.75 ERA (21 ER/50.1 IP) with 50 strikeouts in 12 starts for Worcester since he was acquired from the San Francisco Giants on June 15. The left-hander has also posted a 4.56 ERA (12 ER/23.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts in eight games (four starts) for the Giants this season, as well as a 3.46 ERA (10 ER/26.0 IP) in six starts for Triple-A Sacramento. Originally selected by the Giants in the third round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has posted a 4.48 ERA (91 ER/182.2 IP) with 178 strikeouts in 39 career Major League games (35 starts), all with the Giants (2023-25).
Murphy, 27, has pitched in 17 games for Boston this season, going 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA (8 ER/25.2 IP) and .157 opponent batting average (14-for-89). The left-hander also owns a 2.93 ERA (9 ER/27.2 IP) in 18 minor league games (five starts), including a 3.38 ERA (8 ER/21.1 IP) in 13 games (two starts) for Worcester. Selected by Boston in the sixth round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native owns a 4.17 ERA (34 ER/73.1 IP) with 70 strikeouts in 37 career Major League games, all with the Red Sox (2023, 2025).
