Talons blow 5-0 lead … then win in extras

July 12th, 2025

The Talons' 8-7 win over the Bandits on Friday night at Claussen Field at the University of Nebraska-Omaha had it all.

After the Talons took a commanding 5-0 lead, the Bandits used a six-run inning to take the lead, before the Talons settled it in extra innings with a walk-off win to move to an AUSL-best 13-3 record. Here’s a rundown of the top moments from one of the best games of the inaugural AUSL season.

1. Ali Aguilar walks it off for the Talons

Tied at six runs apiece heading into extra innings -- the AUSL also places a designated runner on second base to begin the inning -- the Bandits took a 7-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning. After the first two Talons were retired in the bottom of the inning, three straight hitters reached base, which was capped by Aguilar’s walk-off double.

2. Bandits use a six-run fifth inning to take lead

Despite the tough ending and beginning to the game, the Bandits showed a ton of fight. Down 5-0 in the fifth inning -- remember there are only seven innings in AUSL games -- the Bandits took the lead with a six-hit, six-run inning.

3. Allchin, Flippen go back-to-back for Talons

Up 1-0 in the third inning, Jadelyn Allchin and Hannah Flippen went back-to-back to quickly put the Talons up 4-0. For Allchin, it was her third home run of the season and helped move the former UCLA Bruin’s season slash line up to .417/.512/.694. Flippen’s homer was also her third of the season, moving the former Utah Ute's season line to .380/.466/.640.

Volts 11, Blaze 6

The Volts used a seven-run fourth inning -- the most runs scored in an inning in the AUSL's inaugural season -- to coast to a 11-6 win at Husky Softball Stadium at the University of Washington.

Six Volts hitters had multiple hits, including three in a homecoming for leadoff hitter Sis Bates, who played her college ball at Washington. Only one of their 15 hits left the yard, but the Volts had three doubles and a triple.
