D-backs No. 4 prospect Crisantes (shoulder) to miss remainder of '25

May 21st, 2025

One of the D-backs’ most promising hitting prospects will miss out on the rest of the 2025 season.

Demetrio Crisantes has suffered a posterior labral tear in his left shoulder and will undergo season-ending surgery, D-backs director of player development Chris Slivka told MLB.com on Wednesday.

Arizona's No. 4 prospect last appeared in a game for High-A Hillsboro at Tri-City on May 14. During an at-bat in the top of the third inning, he fouled off a 1-0 pitch and started shaking his left shoulder before calling out Hops trainer Cat Widay. Crisantes finished the at-bat with a groundout to third base but was replaced defensively in the bottom half of the frame.

The 2022 seventh-rounder sported a .252/.358/.415 slash line with four homers, 21 walks and 19 strikeouts in 34 games before the injury.

The Arizona native jumped up prospect boards during a breakout 2024 season in which he led Minor League teenagers (min. 400 PA) with a .341 average and a.429 on-base percentage over a 92-game span between the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League and Single-A Visalia. His ability to make good swing decisions and show quality bat-to-ball skills from the right side of the plate earned him a 60 hit tool grade in his most recent MLB Pipeline scouting report, the highest mark in the D-backs' system.

Crisantes split his time between second and third base in the Northwest League, and also had seen brief time at first base in ‘24 as the D-backs tried to find any spot for him in the lineup. Following Jordan Lawlar’s promotion to the Majors this month, Crisantes was the system’s highest-ranked Minor League infielder.

That status will hold for now, but he won’t be able to build on it again until spring 2026 at the earliest.
