The first month of the 2025 MLB season produced big performances around the Majors, especially for two big names in the Big Apple.
AL Player of the Month: Aaron Judge, Yankees
Judge's production has been especially noteworthy. He comes into Friday tied for the MLB lead in homers (10) and leads all hitters with a .427 average and a 1.282 OPS. He also leads MLB with 50 hits and 89 total bases. Judge closed April on an incredible heater, hitting .500 over his final 50 plate appearances and compiling seven multihit games. He entered Friday leading all players with a 2.9 wins above replacement, per Baseball Reference.
NL Player of the Month: Pete Alonso, Mets
Alonso, meanwhile, has emerged as a more complete hitter than at any time in his six previous MLB seasons. He leads the NL with a .475 on-base percentage and ranks second with a .342 average, and his 1.124 OPS is second in baseball behind only Judge. Coming into Friday, Alonso has reached base safely in 13 straight games and is tied for second in baseball with 19 extra-base hits.
Big names were also attached to other monthly superlatives announced on Friday.
AL Pitcher of the Month: Max Fried, Yankees
Fried, who signed an eight-year, $218 million free-agent contract with the Yankees in the offseason, has delivered for New York big time in the first month. His 5-0 record ties him for the most wins in baseball, and his 1.19 ERA is tied for the top mark among AL starters. He's also held opponents to a .207 average in his 37 2/3 innings, and the Yankees are 6-0 in his starts.
NL Pitcher of the Month: Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Dodgers
In the NL, Yamamoto has dazzled for the Dodgers. In his second season with L.A., he's pitched to an MLB-best 1.06 ERA through six starts and has dominated hitters with an 11.4 K/9 ratio. He's fanned 43 hitters in 34 innings and opposing teams have managed just a .190 average against him. In five of his six starts so far, he's held the other team to one or fewer runs.
AL Rookie of the Month: Kristian Campbell, Red Sox
Campbell, 22, leads all qualified rookies with a .902 OPS and eight doubles, while his four homers are tops among the AL rookie class. He also leads the Red Sox with a .407 on-base percentage.
NL Rookie of the Month: Luisangel Acuña, Mets
In the Senior Circuit, Acuña's .288 average is tops among NL rookies with at least 70 plate appearances, while his .342 on-base percentage is the best among active NL rookies in that group.
AL Reliever of the Month: Andrés Muñoz, Mariners
Muñoz has pitched to a perfect 0.00 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP to fuel his AL-best 11 saves, while he's also held opponents to a .106 average.
NL Reliever of the Month: Robert Suarez, Padres
Suarez leads the Majors with 12 saves and has a 0.57 WHIP across his 14 appearances, during which he's pitched to a 0.64 ERA. And, like Muñoz, he's held opposing batters to a .106 average.
