After HBP, Alexander's swollen elbow to undergo more tests

MINNEAPOLIS -- Diamondbacks infielder left Sunday afternoon’s game vs. the Twins in the fourth inning after being hit on the left elbow by a Bailey Ober pitch.

A fluoroscopy, a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to produce continuous, real-time images of internal structures, was taken at Target Field. It did not show any broken bones, but the elbow was very swollen postgame.

Alexander will undergo further tests in Phoenix on Monday to ensure there is nothing seriously wrong, but he was relieved by the initial diagnosis.

And, as is his nature, he made sure to reduce the tension in the clubhouse with his humor, telling his teammates that his “horoscope” came back negative.

“I actually told [GM Mike] Hazen that too,” Alexander said. “I thought that's what the machine was called, but it's called a flow, a flow scope, a fluoroscope, or whatever. But I said a horoscope.”

Alexander has been a key contributor for the Diamondbacks since third baseman Eugenio Suárez was dealt to Seattle at the Trade Deadline. Most of his starts have come at third base, but he has also played second base, as well as center and left field.
