RED SOX PLACE INFIELDER/OUTFIELDER ROMY GONZALEZ ON 10-DAY INJURED LIST
BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today placed infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez on the 10-Day Injured List (retroactive to May 8) with a left quad contusion. To fill his spot, the club recalled infielder/outfielder Nick Sogard from Triple-A Worcester.
Gonzalez, 28, has batted .308 (16-for-52) with six doubles in 17 games this season while making 10 starts at first base, one at second base, and one at third base. Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has hit .249 (120-for-481) with 27 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 62 RBI, and 21 stolen bases in 192 career games with the White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox (2024-25).
Sogard, 27, has played in 28 games for Worcester this season, making starts at shortstop (13 games), third base (five games), second base (five games), right field (three games), and first base (two games). The switch-hitter made his Major League debut for the Red Sox in 2024, batting .273 (21-for-77) with 13 runs scored, four doubles, eight RBI, and three stolen bases in 31 games while making 11 starts at second base, six at third base, and six at shortstop. Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 12th round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native was acquired by Boston in a four-player trade on February 17, 2021.
