Kansas City Urban Youth Academy

Our Mission
The Urban Youth Academy (UYA) empowers Kansas City’s urban youth to unlock their potential and become the leaders of tomorrow through baseball and softball. We are committed to educating our players by surrounding them with coaches, mentors, and role models who can teach them how to play the games of baseball and softball and serve as examples of good citizenship.
Through our athletic-focused training, education, and character development programs, we aim to build a strong foundation for Academy student-athletes. The UYA exists to grow the game within the urban community so youth can succeed on and off the field.
The UYA provides a welcoming space for businesses to host a variety of community events. We have facilitated numerous gatherings, including career fairs, health clinics, meal distributions, and offsite meetings. Some of the organizations we've partnered with include the Heartland Black Chamber, Turn the Page, City Year, 20/20 Leadership, and Operation Breakthrough.
Highlights and Recognitions
Nike RBI Central Regionals held July 24–27 at the Urban Youth Academy, brought together youth baseball and softball teams from across the Midwest for an unforgettable weekend. The Regionals kicked off Thursday with opening ceremonies featuring MCC Executive Director of Communications Blake Fry, Royals Chairman and CEO John Sherman, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick, and MLB Vice President of Youth Baseball and Softball Development David James. Families then enjoyed food, fun, and fellowship while cheering on the athletes. Games continued Friday and Saturday, leading into Sunday’s championships where Chicago White Sox RBI won both the Junior Baseball and Softball titles, and Indianapolis RBI captured the Senior Baseball crown. The weekend wrapped with a celebration of competition, community, and the game’s power to connect us all.
