On Tuesday, September 16, the Reds Hall of Fame will host the first public screening of “The Machine in Reds Country,” a film by Cam Miller, the creator of “Riverfront Remembered,” a retrospective of the stadium that served as the home of the Big Red Machine.
“The Machine in Reds Country” is an hourlong documentary film that tells both the story of that legendary team and the story of the legions of fans that cheered on the Machine and that collectively came to be defined as “Reds Country.”
The dominance of the Machine in the 1970s has been well documented over the course of the last 50 years, but the true scope of all the elements that had to come together to make the Machine has often been overlooked. For the Machine to dominate the decade the way it did, it took the efforts of each of the 116 players who appeared in a game for the Reds over those 10 seasons, each member of the on-field coaching staff, the player development department, the front office, the 21,452,468 fans who packed Riverfront Stadium to see the Machine play, and the over 100 radio stations that brought the exploits of the Machine to listeners throughout the seven states that made up Reds Country. Each of these elements served as a critical gear, cog or bolt in the Machine.
Filmmaker Cam Miller tells this incredible story in a unique way, taking viewers back to the 1970s through a wealth of period images, film clips, radio calls, period-themed music and fan stories that serve to encapsulate an unforgettable era that defined Cincinnati baseball for generations.
Don’t miss this exclusive opportunity to experience this film for the first time. Mr. Miller will be on-hand to introduce the film and participate in a post-screening Q&A session.
