San Francisco, Calif. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Sunday’s game against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park:
- Right-handed pitcher Jack Leiter activated from 15-day Injured List (right middle finger blister).
- Right-handed pitcher Gerson Garabito optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Leiter, who turned 25 on Monday, will start for the Rangers in today’s 3-game series finale at San Francisco after missing Texas’ last 20 games with a right middle finger blister. He was placed on the 15-day Injured List on April 4 (retroactive to April 3), two days after throwing 5.0 shutout innings on April 2 at Cincinnati. The right-hander made one start on rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday vs. Las Vegas, pitching 4.2 scoreless innings with one hit allowed, one walk, and 4 strikeouts on 60 pitches/40 strikes. Leiter retired 13 of the 15 batters he faced in the rehab outing and touched 98.9 mph with a four-seam fastball in his final inning of work.
In 2 starts with the Rangers this season before landing on the Injured List, Leiter is 2-0 with a 0.90 ERA (1 ER/10.0 IP), one walk, 10 strikeouts, a 0.70 WHIP, and a .171 opponent batting average (6-35), including notching his first career Major League win in his season debut on March 28 vs. Boston. Since making his MLB debut on April 18, 2024 at Detroit, the Plantation, Fla. native has gone 2-3 with a 7.09 ERA (36 ER/45.2 IP) and 41 strikeouts in 11 career MLB appearances/8 starts with the Rangers. Originally selected by Texas with the 2nd overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft from Vanderbilt University, Leiter currently ranks as the Rangers’ no. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline.
Garabito, 29, did not appear for Texas during his 2nd stint with the club in 2025 from April 24-26. The right-hander was a member of the Rangers’ Opening Day roster and has pitched in 3 MLB games this year (all in relief), owning no record and a 9.00 ERA (8 ER/8.0 IP). He also has made 2 starts with Triple-A Round Rock in 2025, yielding 9 earned runs in 5.1 innings (0-2, 15.19 ERA). In 21 career MLB games/2 starts since debuting with Texas last season, Garabito has gone 0-2 with a 5.77 ERA (22 ER/34.1 IP) and 30 strikeouts.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
