West Sacramento, Calif — The Texas Rangers today placed shortstop Corey Seager on the 10-day Injured List (recovery from appendectomy), retroactive to August 28, and selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Dylan Moore (#25) from Triple-A Round Rock. To make room for Moore on the 40-man roster, outfielder Evan Carter was transferred from the 10-day Injured List to the 60-day Injured List with a right wrist fracture.
Seager, who exited Wednesday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels after the 4th inning with abdominal soreness, was diagnosed with appendicitis and underwent a successful appendectomy procedure on Thursday performed by Dr. Garish Alexander in Mansfield, Texas. The shortstop has batted .271/.373/.487/.860 (103-380) with a team-leading 21 home runs, 19 doubles, and 50 RBI in 102 games for Texas this season. He ranks among American League leaders in on-base percentage (4th), OPS (8th), and walks (T9th, 58), and his 5.9 wins above replacement (baseball-reference) are 3rd-most in the A.L. to only New York’s Aaron Judge (7.1) and Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. (6.0).
Moore, 33, was signed by Texas Wednesday to a minor league contract and assigned to Triple-A Round Rock, where he went 1-for-4 with one double, one stolen base, and one run in a start at second base vs. Salt Lake that night. The right-handed-hitting utility player began the season with Seattle, as he was a member of the club's Opening Day roster and batted .193/.263/.359/.622 (37-192) with 9 home runs, 5 doubles, 19 RBI, and 12 stolen bases in 88 games. Moore saw defensive action at rightfield (29 games/17 starts), second base (28 games/19 starts), third base (16 games/7 starts), first base (16 games), shortstop (6 games/4 starts), and centerfield (1 game) with the Mariners this year. He was designated for assignment by Seattle on August 23 and released on August 25.
Moore has spent his entire Major League career to date with the Mariners, hitting .205 with 61 home runs, 192 RBI, and 116 stolen bases while appearing defensively at every position except catcher over 7 seasons from 2019-25. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native was originally selected by the Rangers in the 7th round of the 2015 MLB Draft from the University of Central Florida, spending the 2015 and 2016 minor league seasons in the Texas chain before he was acquired by Atlanta as part of a three-team trade with Miami. After logging stints in the Braves and Brewers minor league systems, Moore inked a minor league contract with the Mariners in November 2018 and made his Major League debut with Seattle on March 20, 2019 vs. the Athletics in Tokyo.
Carter, who turned 23 years old today, had been on the 10-day Injured List with a right wrist fracture since August 22 after he was hit by a pitch on August 21 at Kansas City. The left-handed-hitting outfielder batted .247/.336/.392/.728 (48-194) with 5 home runs, 2 triples, 9 doubles, 25 RBI, and 14 stolen bases in 63 games for Texas this season, including 51 starts in centerfield. Carter is now ineligible to be activated for the balance of the 2025 regular season.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with four players (Cody Bradford, Evan Carter, Tyler Mahle, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
