Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the club’s June Minor League Award winners:

  • Player of the Month – INF Cody Freeman
  • Starting Pitcher of the Month – LHP Kohl Drake
  • Reliever of the Month – RHP Codi Heuer
  • Defender of the Month – INF Antonis Macias

Freeman, 24, batted .347/.413/.582/.995 (34-98) with 6 home runs, 5 doubles, 19 RBI, and more walks (10) than strikeouts (9) in 23 games last month for Triple-A Round Rock, ranking among Pacific Coast League leaders in runs scored (T3rd, 24), hits (4th), batting average (6th), and total bases (T6th, 57). The infielder hit safely in 21 of his 23 games in June, including in 10 straight from June 19-29 to conclude the month. From May 27-June 13, he hit safely in all 14 of his games, the longest streak by an Express player in 2025. In 75 Triple-A contests this season, Freeman is hitting .316/.369/.505/.874 (94-297) with 12 home runs, 20 doubles, and 54 RBI to rank among the PCL in batting average (4th), hits (5th), and runs (T6th, 59). The Pomona, Calif. native is in his sixth professional season in the Rangers organization after he was selected by Texas in the 4th round of the 2019 MLB Draft from Etiwanda H.S.

Drake, who turns 25 on July 17, went 2-1 with a 1.64 ERA (4 ER/22.0 IP), a 0.91 WHIP, a .160 opponent batting average (12-75), and 21 strikeouts against 8 walks across 4 starts for Double-A Frisco last month. The southpaw, currently the Rangers' no. 11 prospect per MLB Pipeline, ranked among Texas League leaders during June (min. 4 GS) in hits-per-9.0 IP (3rd, 4.91), WHIP (4th), opponent batting average (4th), and ERA (6th). He finished the month with 16.0 consecutive scoreless innings from June 11-June 25, which included a career-high 7.0 shutout frames with one hit allowed and 6 strikeouts on June 18 at San Antonio. Drake was promoted to Round Rock on July 3 after posting a 2.44 ERA in 12 starts for Frisco this year, as the former 11th-round selection in the 2022 MLB Draft by Texas is making his first appearance on a Triple-A roster in his 3rd professional campaign.

Heuer, 29, fashioned a 1.80 ERA (2 ER/10.0 IP) with a 14.40 strikeouts-per-9.0 IP ratio and a 0.80 WHIP in 8 relief appearances for Round Rock during June after being optioned by Texas on June 4. He recorded 2-or-more strikeouts in 7 of the 8 outings and logged 1.1-or-more innings in 4 of 8 appearances. Among PCL relievers with at least 10.0 innings pitched in June, Heuer’s 8.00 strikeouts-per-walk figure (16 SO/2 BB) was 2nd-best on the circuit, also ranking in WHIP (3rd), opponent OPS (4th, .523), and ERA (6th) under the same parameters. The right-hander, who was originally a 6th round selection by Chicago-AL in 2018, owns a 3-2 record with 2 saves and a 2.91 ERA (11 ER/34.0 IP) in 29 games for the Express this year while also appearing once for Texas on June 3 at Tampa Bay (1.1 IP, 1 R-ER).

The 20-year-old Macias converted all 82 of his defensive chances for Single-A Hickory in 24 games last month at second base (20) and first base (4). He was the only Carolina League infielder with at least 20 games played in June to not make an error, and one of two such players in all of Single-A (also Dunedin’s Kendry Chirinos of the Toronto organization). Macias, who has seen the bulk of his defensive action at second base in 2025, has committed just 6 errors in 262 total chances this season for a .977 fielding percentage – the 3rd-best mark among Carolina League infielders (min. 60 starts).
