Club Designates Right-Handed Pitcher Robert Stock for Assignment

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today selected right-handed pitcher Brian Van Belle to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. He will wear number 77. To make room, Boston designated right-handed pitcher Robert Stock for assignment.

Van Belle, 28, has pitched in 12 games (eight starts) for Worcester this season, going 5-1 while recording a 2.29 ERA (13 ER/51.0 IP), a 1.06 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts. The right-hander has earned the win in each of his last five games (four starts), posting a 1.55 ERA (5 ER/29.0 IP) and 0.86 WHIP in that span. Signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent in June 2020, the Florida native has gone 37-19 with a 4.41 ERA (246 ER/502.1 IP) in 115 career minor league games (84 starts), all with the Red Sox organization (2021-25).

Stock, 35, has appeared in two games for Boston this season, allowing three runs over 2.2 innings. The right-hander has also posted a 3.09 ERA (19 ER/55.1 IP) with 63 strikeouts in 12 games (nine starts) for Worcester. Originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has recorded a 4.90 ERA (41 ER/75.1 IP) in 57 career Major League games (three starts) with the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Red Sox (2020, 2025), Chicago Cubs (2021), and New York Mets (2021).
