BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated infielder/outfielder Romy Gonzalez from the 10-Day Injured List. To make room, the club optioned infielder/outfielder Nate Eaton to Triple-A Worcester.
Gonzalez, 28, played two rehab games with Triple-A Worcester, starting one at first base and one as the designated hitter. The right-handed hitter has batted .308 (16-for-52) with six doubles in 17 games this season for Boston while making 10 starts at first base, one at second base, and one at third base. Originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has hit .249 (120-for-481) with 27 doubles, four triples, 11 home runs, 62 RBI, and 21 stolen bases in 192 career games with the White Sox (2021-23) and Red Sox (2024-25).
Eaton, 28, has played 53 games for Worcester this season, batting .277 (54-for-195) with 16 doubles, one triple, five home runs, and an .810 OPS. The right-handed hitter has made 20 starts at third base, 18 in center field, 10 in right field, two as the designated hitter, and one each at second base, shortstop, and left field. Originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 21st round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Virginia native has played 72 career Major League games, all for the Royals (2022-23), batting .201 (32-for-159) with one home run and 13 RBI.
