BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
- Placed infielder Alex Bregman on the 10-Day Injured List with a right quad strain.
- Selected infielder Marcelo Mayer to the active Major League roster from Triple-A Worcester. Mayer will wear number 39.
- Transferred first baseman Triston Casas to the 60-Day Injured List.
Bregman, 31, was removed from yesterday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth inning. The right-handed hitter has batted .299 (59-for-197) with a .938 OPS, 17 doubles, 11 home runs, and 35 RBI in 51 games this season. Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the first round (No. 2 overall) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the New Mexico native has hit .274 (1,191-for-4,354) with an .852 and 698 RBI in 1,162 career Major League games with Houston (2016-24) and Boston (2025).
Mayer, 22, is ranked as the Red Sox’ No. 2 prospect and the No. 8 overall prospect by both Baseball America and MLB.com. In 43 games for Worcester this season, his first Triple-A experience, the left-handed hitter has batted .271 (46-for-170) with five doubles, one triple, nine home runs, and 43 RBI while making 28 starts at shortstop, 10 at second base, four at third base, and one as the designated hitter. Selected by Boston in the first round (No. 4 overall) in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has hit .273 (335-for-1,225) with an .826 OPS, 86 doubles, six triples, and 46 home runs in 315 career minor league games.
Casas, 25, was placed on 10-Day Injured List on May 3 with a left patellar tendon rupture. The left-handed hitter has played in 29 games this season, batting .182 (18-for-99) with three doubles and three home runs. Selected by Boston in the first round (No. 26 overall) of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .241 (197-for-816) with 45 home runs and 120 RBI in 251 career games, all with the Red Sox (2022-25).
