Outfielder Roman Anthony of the Boston Red Sox has been voted the American League Rookie of the Month for August, and outfielder Jakob Marsee of the Miami Marlins has been voted the National League Rookie of the Month for August. The announcements were made earlier today on MLB Network.
Anthony is the second Red Sox rookie to win the award this season, following Kristian Campbell’s honor in March/April, marking the first time Boston has won the award twice in a single season. Overall, he is Boston’s 12th player to earn the honor, joining Kevin Youkilis (May 2004); Jonathan Papelbon (April 2006); Hideki Okajima (April 2007); Dustin Pedroia (May 2007); Jacoby Ellsbury (September 2007); Jose Iglesias (June 2013); Andrew Benintendi (August 2017); Michael Chavis (May 2019); Bobby Dalbec (August 2021); Triston Casas (July 2023); and Campbell. Marsee also earned his first career honor, and is the first Marlin to win the award since Trevor Rogers won in consecutive months in April and May 2021.
Overall, he is Miami’s 11th player (15th award) to earn the honor, joining Dontrelle Willis (June 2003); Miguel Cabrera (2x, July & September 2003); Josh Johnson (2x, May & June 2006); Dan Uggla (June 2006); Aníbal Sánchez (September 2006); Chris Coghlan (August 2009); Gaby Sánchez (June 2010); José Fernández (2x, July & August 2013); Justin Bour (September 2015); and Rogers (2x).

The 21-year-old hit .304 (31-for-102) with six homers, 13 RBI, four doubles, 15 walks, 21 runs scored, two stolen bases, a .520 slugging percentage and a .390 on-base percentage across 26 games.
The West Palm Beach, Florida native ranked second among qualified rookies in homers, hits, total bases (53) and runs scored; tied for second in walks; ranked fourth in on-base percentage and OPS (.910); ranked fifth in batting average; tied for sixth in extra-base hits (10); ranked eighth in slugging; and tied for ninth in RBI.
The second-round selection in the 2022 Draft became the first Red Sox player under the age of 22 with at least 30 hits in a single month since Xander Bogaerts in May 2014. He is one of three players to achieve the feat this season, joining Milwaukee’s Jackson Chourio (2x, April & July) and Baltimore’s Jackson Holliday (May).
After signing an eight-year contract extension on August 6th, Anthony tallied a hit in five consecutive games from August 8th12th, closing the streak with a home run in back-to-back contests at Houston on August 11th-12th. He became the first Red Sox player under the age of 22 to homer in consecutive games since Rafael Devers in 2018.
Anthony racked up 12 multi-hit contests during the month, tied for the second-most in the Majors, and he already has 24 multihit games in his career since making his debut on June 9th. He reached base 119 times in his first 70 career games, the thirdmost through a players’ first 70 games at age 21-or-younger in AL history behind Hall of Famers Ted Williams (129 times on base in 1939) and Joe DiMaggio (126 time in 1936).
Jakob Marsee, Miami Marlins (@marsee32)
The 24-year-old hit .352 (37-for-105) with four homers, 25 RBI, 11 doubles, three triples, 15 walks, 18 runs scored, nine stolen bases, a .629 slugging percentage and a .430 on-base percentage across 30 contests.
The Dearborn, Michigan native led qualified rookies in batting average, RBI, slugging, OPS (1.059), hits, doubles, triples, extra-base hits (13), total bases (66) and stolen bases; tied for second in walks; and ranked third in on-base percentage and runs scored. He ranked second among all Major League hitters in batting average, OPS and doubles.
After being acquired from the Padres in exchange for Luis Arraez last May, Marsee made his Major League debut on August 1st, reaching base four times against the Yankees. He became the first player in franchise history to reach base at least four times in his debut and also the first player in franchise history to draw three walks in their Major League debut.
The sixth-round selection in the 2022 Draft (by SD) racked up four hits, including a pair of home runs, as he tied Miami’s franchise record with seven RBI on August 13th at Cleveland. He became the seventh player in franchise history to reach the mark and the first since Adam Duvall on April 13, 2021.
The Central Michigan University product became the fourth Marlins rookie with at least 25 RBI in a single month, per Elias, joining Kevin Millar (26 RBI) in July 1999; Bruce Aven (25 RBI) in June 1999; and Justin Bour (25 RBI) in September 2015. Marsee is just the third Marlin under the age of 25 with at least 35 hits and 25 RBI in a single month, joining Giancarlo Stanton (May 2012) and Miguel Cabrera (3x, May 2006, August 2006 & September 2007).
