Detroit, Mich. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Friday night’s series opener against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park:
- Outfielder Sam Haggerty (#0) contract selected from Triple-A Round Rock.
- Outfielder Dustin Harris optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
The 30-year-old Haggerty has hit .313 (26-83) with one home run, one triple, 2 doubles, 12 RBI, 9 walks, 7 stolen bases, 14 runs scored, and a .781 OPS in 22 games with Round Rock (AAA) this season. The switch-hitter has been deployed at centerfield (11 games/starts), second base (4 games/starts), rightfield (3 games/starts), leftfield (1 game/start), shortstop (1 game/start), and designated hitter (1 game/start) this year, going errorless in 54 total chances. Since April 18, Haggerty has slashed .347/.389/.490/.879 (17-49) with 9 RBI and 12 runs scored, including hitting safely in his last 5 games at a .429 (9-21) clip.
Haggerty was signed by Texas to a minor league contract with a Spring Training invite on February 4, batting .222 (8-36) in 16 Cactus League games with the Rangers before being assigned to Round Rock on March 25. In 202 career MLB games with New York-NL (2019) and Seattle (2020-24), the Phoenix, Ariz. native has produced a .232/.312/.351/.663 (98-422) slash line with 9 home runs, 40 RBI, and 33 stolen bases in 36 attempts (91.7%). He was originally selected by Cleveland in the 24th round of the 2015 MLB Draft from the University of New Mexico and made his Major League debut with the Mets on 9/4/19 at Washington. Haggerty’s 2024 campaign was limited to 27 games (8 with Seattle, 19 with Triple-A Tacoma) due to a torn right Achilles tendon suffered on 5/18/24 with Tacoma, and he became a free agent in November 2024 after he was non-tendered by the Mariners.
Harris, 25, batted .200 (7-35) with one home run, 2 doubles, one RBI, 3 walks, one stolen base, 4 runs scored, and a .606 OPS in 16 games with Texas since being recalled from Round Rock on April 9. He appeared at all 3 outfield positions in his stint with the Rangers, including making 6 starts in leftfield. The left-handed hitter made his Major League debut with the club on 9/28/24 at Los Angeles-AL and has posted a .220 (9-41) career average in 45 plate appearances.
With today’s transactions, the Rangers are now at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
