Rangers Activate OF Kevin Pillar From Injured List, Recall RHP Caleb Boushley From Triple-A Round Rock

Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Sunday’s series finale against the Houston Astros at Globe Life Field:

  • Outfielder Kevin Pillar activated from 10-day Injured List (lower back inflammation).
  • Right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
  • Outfielder Evan Carter placed on 10-day Injured List (right quadriceps strain), retroactive to May 17.
  • Right-handed pitcher Cole Winn optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Pillar, 36, was placed on the 10-day Injured List on May 7 (retroactive to May 4) and missed the club’s last 13 games. The outfielder was sent on an injury rehab assignment to Frisco (AA) on Wednesday, going 1-for-10 with one run scored across 3 starts for the RoughRiders. He was Frisco’s starting designated hitter on Wednesday and Saturday vs. Corpus Christi and also logged 8.0 innings in centerfield on Thursday.

The West Hills, Calif. native has batted .237 (9-38) with 2 doubles, one RBI, 3 stolen bases, and 6 runs scored in 18 games for Texas this year, appearing at all 3 outfield positions (9 games/6 starts in CF, 4 games in RF, 3 games/2 starts in LF) and designated hitter (3 games). A 13-year MLB veteran with 1,232 career games for Toronto (2013-19), San Francisco (2019), Boston (2020), Colorado (2020), New York-NL (2021), Los Angeles-NL (2022), Atlanta (2023), Chicago-AL (2024), Los Angeles-AL (2024), and Texas (2025), Pillar was signed by the Rangers to a minor league contract on February 23 and was the lone non-roster invitee on the club’s 2025 Opening Day roster.

Boushley, 31, is in his third stint with Texas this season (also April 8-27, May 1-14), owning no record with a 4.50 ERA (6 ER/12.0 IP) in 6 relief appearances for the Rangers. He has not pitched since being optioned to Round Rock (AAA) on Thursday, last appearing Wednesday in Texas’ 8-3 win over Colorado (2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO, 49 pitches/29 strikes). The right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Rangers on 11/15/24 and has gone 1-0 with a 4.42 ERA (9 ER/18.1 IP) in 9 career Major League appearances (all relief) with Milwaukee (2023), Minnesota (2024), and Texas (2025). Boushley leads the Rangers with 4 relief outings of 2.0-or-more innings this season (T9th in A.L.).

Carter, 22, was scratched from Saturday’s starting lineup after appearing in 11 of Texas’ previous 12 games since being recalled from Round Rock on May 6. The left-handed-hitting outfielder has slashed .182/.270/.273/.543 (6-33) with one home run, 3 RBI, 3 walks, 3 stolen bases, and 5 runs scored in 11 MLB games this year, registering 9 starts in centerfield. Originally selected by the Rangers in the 2nd round of the 2020 MLB Draft from Elizabethton (Tenn.) H.S., Carter has batted .218 (52-239) with 11 home runs, 3 triples, 10 doubles, 30 RBI, 8 stolen bases, 43 runs scored, and a .733 OPS in 79 career games with Texas from 2023-25.

The 25-year-old Winn pitched in one game for Texas after being recalled from Round Rock on Thursday, posting 2.1 scoreless innings to finish Friday’s 6-3 defeat vs. Houston. In 14 career MLB appearances (all relief) from 2024-25, the former first-round selection by Texas (2018, 15th overall) is 0-1 with a 6.86 ERA (15 ER/19.2 IP) and 3.90 FIP.

With today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
