Pirates Sign Left-Handed Pitcher Génesis Cabrera To A One-Year Major League Contract

The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed left-handed pitcher Génesis Cabrera to a one-year Major League contract.

Right-handed pitcher Michael Darrell-Hicks has been optioned to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room on the 26-man active roster.

Right-handed pitcher Hunter Stratton has been designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

Cabrera had a 6.35 ERA (17.0ip/12er) and 15 strikeouts in 15 appearances this season, split between New York (NL) and Chicago (NL). He was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Saturday and outrighted to Triple-A Iowa on Monday. Cabrera elected free agency on Tuesday.

Cabrera, who will be active tomorrow, has gone 17-14 with five saves, a 4.03 ERA (292.2ip/131er) and 283 strikeouts in 287 appearances (two starts) in the big leagues with St. Louis (2019-23), Toronto (2023-24), the Mets (2025) and Cubs (2025).
