Pirates Acquire Outfielder Ivan Brethowr From The Chicago Cubs For Left-Handed Pitcher Taylor Rogers

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired outfielder Ivan Brethowr from the Chicago Cubs for left-handedpitcher Taylor Rogers.

The 22-year-old Brethowr hit .221 (58-for-263) with 10 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 26 RBI, 25 stolen bases and 48 runs scored in 83 games this season with High-A South Bend of the Midwest League. Brethowr’s 25 stolen bases coming into today ranked third among all Cubs farmhands.

Brethowr made his professional debut with Low-A Myrtle Beach last season after being selected by the Cubs in the seventh round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of California, Santa Barbara. He took home First-Team All-Big West honors in 2024 after leading the conference with 15 home runs.
