ANGELS MAKE 17 SELECTIONS ON SECOND DAY OF 2025 MLB FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT

ANAHEIM – The Angels made 17 selections today during the second day of the 2025 First-Year Player Draft. Today’s picks consisted of nine college players and eight high school players, with 10 pitchers, four infielders, and three outfielders selected. Overall, the Angels drafted nine high school players, the Club’s most in a Draft since selecting 10 high school players in 2019 in the final year of the 40-round draft format. The last time the Angels picked at least seven high school players within the first 20 rounds was 2010.

In the fourth round (109th overall), the Angels selected 3B Jake Munroe from the University of Louisville. Munroe, 21, batted .346 (84/243) with 68 runs scored, 13 doubles, four triples, 13 home runs, 61 RBI, and a 1.044 OPS in 66 games for the Cardinals. He ranked fourth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in runs scored and triples, ranked fifth in hits, and seventh in total bases (144).

The Angels fifth round selection (140th overall) was RHP CJ Gray from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The NC State commit was ranked the #2 RHP in North Carolina in the 2025 Draft class by Perfect Game.

In the sixth round (169th overall), the Angels drafted RHP Luke Lacourse from Bay City Western High School in Auburn, Michigan. Lacourse was named Michigan’s MHSBCA Mr. Baseball, recognizing the top player in the state, following a senior season in which he posted a 4-2 record and 1.31 ERA (42.2 IP – 8 ER) with 82 strikeouts across nine starts.

RHP Lucas Mahlstedt was selected with the Angels seventh round pick (199th overall) out of Clemson University. Mahlstedt was named a NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award finalist, and was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and National Pitcher of the Year Award. He went 4-1 with a 3.00 ERA (48.0 IP – 16 ER) and with 61 strikeouts in 27 relief appearances with the Tigers in 2025, and his 15 saves ranked third in NCAA Division 1. For his efforts, Mahlstedt was named to the 2025 All-ACC First Team, and was named a First Team All-American by NCBWA and Perfect Game.

The Halos selected OF Isaiah Jackson in the eighth round (229th overall) from Arizona State University. Jackson batted .310 (67/216) with 51 runs scored, 11 doubles, two triples, 18 home runs, 68 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and a 1.032 OPS in 60 games in his junior season for ASU in 2025. He ranked third in the Big 12 Conference in RBI, fifth in home runs, and eighth in total bases (136). He was named to the All-Big 12 First Team and is the younger brother of RHP Andre Jackson, who pitched parts of three MLB seasons with the Dodgers (2021-2023) and Pirates (2023).

In the ninth round (259th overall), the Angels selected 3B Slate Alford out of the University of Georgia. Alford, 22, batted .331 (80/242) with 71 runs scored, 16 doubles, 19 home runs, 63 RBI, and a 1.089 OPS in 60 games in his senior season for the Bulldogs. He was named a First Team All-SEC selection and ranked fourth in runs scored, fifth in total bases (157), seventh in home runs, eighth in hits, ninth in slugging percentage (.649), and 10th in RBI and OPS in the Southeastern Conference.

2B Nick Rodriguez was selected with the Angels 10th round pick (289th overall) out of Missouri State University. Rodriguez was named a 2025 ABCA First-Team All-American and was named a Dick Howser Trophy semifinalist after batting .368 (84/228) with 65 runs scored, 22 doubles, 18 home runs, 56 RBI, and a 1.145 OPS in 55 games as a senior for the Bears. Rodriguez batted safely in a conference-record 40 consecutive games from March 9 - May 23, and had the first recorded extra-base hit streak of at least 15 games in NCAA history (March 23 - April 18).

LHP Alton Davis II was selected with the Angels 11th round pick (319th overall) out of the University of Georgia. Davis II, 21, notched 27 strikeouts across 21 innings in 19 games (one start) for the Bulldogs this season, and did not allow a run in his final six appearances. Davis also posted a 1.00 ERA (9.0 IP – 1 ER) with nine strikeouts in three games in the MLB Draft League this year, and played for the Team USA Collegiate National Team in 2024.

The Angels drafted LHP Talon Haley from Lewisburg High School (Olive Branch, MS) with their 12th round selection (349th overall). Haley went 5-1 with a 0.55 ERA (38.0 IP – 3 ER) with 81 strikeouts in 10 games (seven starts) in his senior season. On March 18, Haley pitched 5.1 no-hit innings against Southaven High School with 15 strikeouts and zero walks. The Vanderbilt commit is the #1 ranked LHP in Mississippi in the 2025 Draft class by Perfect Game.

In the 13th round (379th overall), the Angels selected LHP Xavier Mitchell from Prestonwood Christian Academy in Plano, Texas. As a senior, Mitchell posted a 1.24 ERA (17.0 IP – 3 ER) with 27 strikeouts and allowed three hits across five outings on the season. The Texas commit also won a gold medal as a member of USA Baseball’s national team at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup Americas Qualifier in 2024.

The Halos 14th round selection (409th overall) was OF TJ Ford out of Trinity Christian School in Sharpsburg, GA. Ford batted .376 (35/93) with 42 runs scored, 44 RBI, four doubles, five triples, eight home runs, and a 1.313 OPS in 32 games as a senior, and is committed to the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The Angels 15th round pick (439th overall) was RHP Mikey Cascino from A3 Academy in Tampa, FL. Cascino was named the 2025 Perfect Game National Academies Association Pitcher of the Year, and named to the Perfect Game NAA First Team. On March 18, the University of South Florida commit pitched a 17-strikeout no-hitter and retired every batter he faced following a leadoff walk.

In the 16th round (469th overall), the Angels drafted OF Gage Harrelson from Florida State University. Harrelson, 21, batted .339 (80/236) with 63 runs scored, 17 extra-base hits, 43 RBI, 15 stolen bases, and a .906 OPS in 58 games for FSU.

RHP Cole Raymond was selected with the Angels 17th round pick (499th overall) from Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut. Raymond was ranked by Perfect Game as the top ranked pitcher in the state of Connecticut in the 2025 Draft class.

The Angels drafted RHP Angelo Smith out of the University of Central Florida with their 18th round selection (529th overall). Smith went 1-1 with a 2.83 ERA (28.2 IP – 9 ER) and 24 strikeouts in 14 games (one start) for the Knights in 2025, and pitched in multiple innings in 10 of his 13 appearances in relief.

SS Ivan Tatis was selected with the Angels 19th round pick (559th overall) from Georgia Premier Academy in Statesboro, Georgia. Tatis was named to the Perfect Game All-NAA First Team in 2025.

The Angels selected RHP Sam Tookoian in the 20th round (589th overall) from the University of Mississippi. In three seasons with Ole Miss, Tookoian went 1-1 with a 4.81 ERA (43.0 IP – 23 ER) with 69 strikeouts in 34 appearances in relief. Tookoian also appeared in five games (two starts) in the MLB Draft League in 2025, and posted a 1.42 ERA (12.2 IP – 2 ER) with 16 strikeouts.
