2024

Made 11 relief appearances with Atlanta, posting a 9.90 ERA (10.0IP, 16H, 11R/ER, 3BB, 10K, 3HR)…was acquired by the San Francisco Giants from Atlanta along with INF Sabin Ceballos in exchange for OF Jorge Soler and RHP Luke Jackson on 7/29…made five relief appearances with Triple-A Sacramento, posting a 5.79 ERA (4.2IP, 4H, 4R/3ER, 3BB, 3K, 2HR)…was then released by San Francisco on 8/30 and signed back with Atlanta to a Minor League contract on 8/31…made four relief outings with Triple-A Gwinnett, going 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA (5.2IP, 5H, 3R/ER, 2BB, 5K, 1HR)…declared Minor League free agency on 11/4.

2023

Missed the entire 2023 season due to recovery from Tommy John surgery.

2022

In his fifth major-league season posted a 3.50 ERA with a 4-2 record and one save in 42 relief appearances this year. Was placed on the 15-day IL on May 14 with left shoulder inflammation and was reinstated on 7/4. Pitched to a 3.00 ERA to finish the season after being reinstated from the IL...Had a 5.06 ERA prior to his IL stint. Stranded 18 of 20 inherited runners…His 90% strand rate was the highest in the National League and third highest in the Majors (min 20 IR). Recorded his first career save against Boston on Aug. 9.

2021

In his fourth major-league season went 0-4 in a career most 69 relief appearances with a 2.57 ERA out of the bullpen...Tied for fifth in the majors with 24 holds...Stranded 25 of 28 inherited runners and his 89.3% strand rate was the highest in baseball (min. 25 IR). ..His 11.00 K/9 rate was the second highest in the majors among lefty relievers, trailing only teammate Will Smith (min. 65 appearances)...Set a new franchise record for appearances in a single postseason with 13...The previous mark of 11 was set by Mark Wohlers in 1995...Appeared in each of the Braves' first eight games, setting a new franchise-record mark and tying the MLB record held by Jesse Orosco, Wade Davis and Greg Holland for consecutive outings to open a postseason...His 24 strikeouts were tied for the third-most by a reliever in a single postseason...Led all relievers in the 2021 postseason with 24 punch-outs...Struck out 11 hitters with RISP, tied for the most by a reliever in a single postseason since John Rocker in 1999 (credit to Stats Perform)...Struck out Albert Pujols, Steven Souza Jr., and Mookie Betts in consecutive at-bats, with inherited runners on second and third base in the top of the seventh inning with a two-run lead in the decisive Game 6 win against Los Angeles in the NLCS.

In his third major-league season went 4-3 in 21 relief appearances with a 2.79 ERA and 43 strikeouts...Led the majors with 12 relief appearances of more than 1.0 inning this season... His 43 strikeouts and 29.0 innings pitched this season were the most among lefthanded relievers...Pitched to a 1.94 FIP this season, lowest among all lefties and fourth in MLB (min. 25 IP)...Had not pitched in the majors since 2015... Was out of baseball in 2017 and pitched in the independent American Association in 2018... Rejoined affiliated baseball in 2019 and pitched across three levels of Atlanta’s minor leagues.

2020 POSTSEASON

Appeared in his first postseason and struck out a combined 14 hitters over seven relief appearances (8.2 IP) with a 1.04 ERA...Held Los Angeles to one hit over 2.0 scoreless innings in relief in Game 2 of the NLCS...His 14 strikeouts were third most among all relievers in the postseason...His 1.04 ERA was the second lowest among all relievers with at least five appearances.

2015

Made five Major League starts, going 2-1 with a 4.09 ERA (22.0 IP, 10 ER) and starting the home opener vs. the Chicago Cubs. Started the home opener vs. the Cubs on April 10, getting no-decision in the 5-1 win, allowing four hits and one run over four innings, walking three and hitting two batters. Was 1-1 over his next three starts with the Rockies 1-2; allowed 12 hits and eight runs with 15 walks from April 21-May 6 … optioned to Albuquerque May 8. Made 10 starts at Triple-A Albuquerque, going 0-1 with a 8.74 ERA (11.1 IP, 11 ER) in 10 games, one start … pitched in three-games for Short-Season Boise in relief in June (2.1 IP, 6 ER). Was placed on Triple-A temporarily inactive list after allowing one hit, seven runs, seven walks and one hit batter on May 13 vs. Fresno … did not pitch again until three relief appearances at Short-Season Boise in June. Returned to Triple-A in August, making nine relief appearances the remainder of the season, allowing a combined four earned runs over 10.1 innings. … allowed one hit and two runs with eight walks and eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings over seven August appearances for Albuquerque.

2014

A first round pick (11th overall) from the 2009 Draft, became the fourth player to be drafted by the Rockies from the 2009 class to make it to the big leagues...After making 12 starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs, was called up to make the start on June 11 vs. Atlanta for his Major League debut...he picked up the win going 7.0 innings and allowing just two runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks...Became the third Rockie in 2014 to start a game in his debut on June 11 vs. Atlanta (Eddie Butler, June 6 vs. Los Angeles-NL & Christian Bergman, June 9 vs. Atlanta)...he retired his first 13 batters faced...became first Rockies starter to win his MLB debut since Christian Friedrich May 9, 2012 at San Diego...was the sixth pitcher in Rockies history to go at least 7.0 innings in his MLB debut (last: Juan Nicasio May 28, 2011 vs. St. Louis)...recorded his first career Major League hit with an infield single in the seventh inning, becoming the 36th Rockies player, and seventh pitcher, to collect a hit in his Major League debut...Threw a three-hit complete game shutout against the Padres (Sept. 5) to pick up his third win in a row...it was the lefty's first career complete game shutout and the first thrown by a Rockie since Ubaldo Jimenez on June 1, 2011 at Los Angeles-NL...was the Rockies first complete game since Tyler Chatwood (8.0 IP) on July 13, 2013 at Los Angeles-NL...27th ever complete-game shutout, 12th complete game shutout ever in Denver (last: Chacin, April 15, 2011 vs. Chicago-NL, 5-0)...became the fourth Rockies rookie pitcher to toss a complete game shutout in franchise history, first since Jason Jennings on Aug. 23, 2001 at New York-NL...The left-hander went 5-4 with a 4.05 ERA (66.2 IP, 30 ER) in 12 starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs...he was 2-2 with a 6.75 ERA (29.1 IP, 22 ER) in six home starts and was 3-2 with a 1.93 ERA (37.1 IP, 8 ER) in six road starts...from May 11-27, won each of his four starts allowing just three earned runs (nine runs) over 24.2 innings pitched (1.09 ERA)...Although he took the loss in the Rockies 5-3 defeat, he struck out a career-high nine batters in his start on Aug. 13 at San Diego...his previous career-high mark was eight strikeouts on July 20 at Pittsburgh...he is the seventh Rockies rookie to strikeout at least nine batters in a single game, first since Christian Friedrich struck out 10 batters on May 14, 2012 at San Francisco...Finished the season strong by going 4-2 with a 1.55 ERA (40.2 IP, 7 ER), 14 walks and 38 strikeouts in his final six starts of the season...opponents hit just .223 against him in those final six outings.

2013

Spent the entire 2012 season with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers, his first experience at the Double-A level...Matthes' 17 home runs led the club despite him missing the final month of the season due to injury...hit just .193 (47-for-243) with 8 home runs and 19 RBI prior to the All-Star break...then hit .269 (25-for-93) with 9 home runs and 21 RBI following the All-Star break...was the Drillers everyday right-fielder...Matthes has started all but one professioinal game in right field since he was drafted in 2009...has hit 40 home runs between High-A Modesto and Double-A Tulsa in 187 games over the past two seasons.

2012

Started 28 games for High-A Modesto with 14 coming in the first half before he was named a California League Mid-Season All-Star...went 4-3 with a 3.24 ERA (75.0 ip, 27 er)...his 28 starts and 153 strikeouts tied for the league-lead, while his strikeouts were the second-most among Rockies pitchers...Rated the 8th-best prospect in the organization by Baseball America along with Best Curveball.
