Full name is Sixto Sánchez...Has four sisters and three brothers...Was discovered in 2014 when a Cuban catcher named Lednier Ricardo was auditioning for teams in the Dominican Republic...Ruben Amaro Jr., then the Phillies’ general manager and Mike Ondo, the team’s director of pro scouting, dispatched special assistant Bart Braun to take a look at Ricardo...The workout was at the Phillies’ academy in Boca Chica...Luis García, one of the Phillies’ scouts in the Dominican Republic, was responsible for providing a couple of pitchers so Ricardo could take batting practice...Sánchez was one of the pitchers that García brought to the workout.

2023

Made one start with Double-A Pensacola in his return to professional baseball on Sept. 12...Faced five batters and struck out two in 1.0 scoreless inning...Marked his first professional appearance in a game in nearly three years (last pitched Oct. 8, 2020 against ATL in the National League Division Series)...Pitched in extended Spring Training games in late April and early May before experiencing shoulder soreness that shut him down for four months before he saw game action again.

2022

Did not pitch in 2022 in recovery from surgery. 

2021

Entered the 2021 season as the No. 15 prospect in baseball and the Marlins' top prospect according to MLB.com... Did not pitch after undergoing right shoulder surgery on July 22.

2020

Made seven starts for the Marlins in 2020. Went 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA in 39.0 innings. Struck out 33 and walked 11...Made his Major League debut Aug. 22 at Washington. Worked 5.0 innings striking out four and allowing six hits and three runs, earning the win...Worked seven innings in his second start, striking out 10 against Tampa Bay...Worked his first complete game on Sept. 13 against Philadelphia. Worked 7.0 innings allowing three hits and one run. Became the second Marlins rookie pitcher to throw a complete game within his first five career outings (other, Brian Meadows, 1998)...3-1 with a 1.69 ERA in his first five starts before allowing nine runs in his final two starts of the regular season...Made his postseason debut against Chicago-NL in Game Two of the Wild Card Series on Oct. 2. Did not allow a run in 5.0 innings, striking out six.

2019

Opened 2019 at Extended Spring Training before a brief two-game stint at Single-A Jupiter (0-2, 4.91 ERA). Was promoted to Double-A Jacksonville on May 14 and went 8-4 with a 2.53 ERA (103.0 IP/29 ER) and 97 strikeouts against just 19 walks in 18 starts for the Jumbo Shrimp, limiting opponents to a .225 average...Had a career-best 26.0 scoreless inning streak from July 23 to Aug. 15, over a span of five starts...Set career highs in innings (114.0), strikeouts (103), and wins (8)...Ended season on a five-game winning streak over his last eight starts, posting a 0.95 ERA (47.1/5) with a .168 average against and 0.74 WHIP.

2018

Made just eight starts in 2018 due to injury, going 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA (46.2/13) for Single-A Clearwater in Philadelphia’s system.
