Graduated from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Ariz. before attending Yavapai College and later transferring to Dallas Baptist University...Rated the 16th best right-handed pitcher and the No. 47 overall prospect from the state of Arizona by Perfect Game in 2017...Majored in interdisciplinary studies (management & kinesiology) at Dallas Baptist...Honored his late mother by playing for Puerto Rico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic...His grandfather was born in Puerto Rico...St. Lucie pitching coach Victor Ramos used his connections with the Puerto Rican club to help Hamel receive an invite...Selected by the Mets in the third round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

2024

Spent the entire season with Syracuse (AAA)...Went 5-9 with a 6.79 ERA (94 ER/124.2 IP) with 77 walks and 124 strikeouts across 27 starts...Was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training.

2023

Went 8-6 with a 3.85 ERA (53 ER/124.0 IP) over 26 appearances (25 starts) with Binghamton (AA)...His 160 strikeouts were the most by a Mets Minor Leaguer since 2018 and were the second-most in the Eastern League.

2022

Named the Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 10-3 with a 3.25 ERA (43 ER/119.0 IP), 145 strikeouts and a .196 opponent batting average...Earned a 5-1 record with a 2.75 ERA (16ER/55.2 IP) in 11 starts with Brooklyn (A+), after finishing with a 5-2 record and a 4.12 ERA (27 ER/63.1 IP) with St. Lucie (A).
