Last name is pronounced as “bee-lack”...Brandon has one older brother, Chris, who Brandon modeled his pitching mechanics after as a child...Chris, who’s four years older than Brandon, played college baseball (2011-13) at Maris College (NY)...Brandon graduated from St. Joseph HS in Metuchen, N.J. in 2014...led his team to a county championship as a senior, striking out 87 batters with an 0.82 ERA and an 8-1 record...also hit .420 as a senior to earn Middlesex County Player of the Year honors...Went undrafted out of high school due to a strong commitment to the University of Notre Dame, which offered him a full scholarship...went on to pitch three years at Notre Dame, earning ACC All-Freshman honors in 2015 after leading the Fighting Irish in starts (14) and innings (88.2)...followed that up with a strong sophomore year, in which he posted a 2.10 ERA in 55.2 innings pitched...would pitch three full seasons (2015-17) with the Fighting Irish, spending two of those years as a teammate of IF Cavan Biggio (2015-16), the son of Hall of Famer and Astros Special Assistant Craig Biggio...was also teammates with RHP Peter Solomon, who the Astros also picked in the 2017 draft...in Bielak’s three seasons with the Irish, he pitched in 47 games, going 11-11 with a 3.85 ERA...In the summer between his sophomore and junior years, pitched for the Orleans Firebirds in the Cape Cod League in 2016, posting a 1.54 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 23.1 innings pitched...After his junior year, was selected by the Astros in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft...signed by Astros scout Nick Venuto...Is signed to a one-year deal for the 2024 season...used his third and final option year in 2023.

Combined to go 7-8 with a 2.23 ERA (29ER/117IP) and 131 strikeouts as opposed to 39 walks in 25 games (17 starts) between Double A Corpus Christi (11g) and Class A Advanced Buies Creek (14g)...was named a Carolina League Midseason All-Star with Buies Creek...struck out 11 batters and allowed one run on three hits in 6.0 innings on Aug. 23 vs. Midland...rated the No. 14 prospect in the Carolina League.
