Phillies & Toyota honor nation's heroes on-field with 'Salute to Service'
On Saturday, May 17, local military heroes were honored on-field as part of that night’s “Salute to Service” presented by Toyota. During the game’s opening ceremonies, veterans from each United States conflict were recognized, along with Phillies day-of-game staff who served in the military.
Retired United States Army Cpl. David Billingsley, who was surprised earlier in the week with a personal invitation to the game, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Opening ceremonies also featured a flyover from four United States Army helicopters – two Black Hawks and two Chinooks.
The Phillies and Toyota also honored those who work to improve the lives of veterans, including those from Team Foster.
