Kyle Schwarber thanks local heroes for their service
Before the game against the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber made a lunchtime stop at local 15th Police District Precinct in Northeast Philadelphia to thank the local heroes for their work in the community.
Schwarber provided lunch for all in attendance, took pictures and signed autographs, all as part of his mission to express gratitude to first responders and military personnel through Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes.
Later that day, during batting practice at Citizens Bank Park, Schwarber met with members from Team Foster, a nonprofit that supports injured and disabled veterans through accredited, life-saving service dogs.
Schwarber’s Neighborhood Heroes was founded by Kyle and his wife, Paige to support wellness, education and crisis needs for police, fire, military personnel and their families. Kyle Schwarber grew up in a family deeply connected to public service – his father is a retired police chief, his mother served as a police dispatcher, and his sister currently works in the local PD. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to nonprofits who support Schwarber’s cause, such as the Philadelphia Police and Fire Department Foundations, Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation, TAPS, Team Foster, USO and many more. Through the program, Kyle and Paige have touched the lives of countless military personnel and first responders, along with their families, through various events, both at Citizens Bank Park and in the community.
