Domínguez (thumb), Weaver (hamstring) to get evaluated in NY

June 2nd, 2025

LOS ANGELES -- The Yankees concluded their nine-game West Coast road trip on a winning note Sunday, riding Ryan Yarbrough’s strong effort and DJ LeMahieu’s first four-hit game since 2021 to a 7-3 victory over the Dodgers, but they’ll head home with a pair of new injury concerns.

Outfielder was removed from the game after sustaining a left thumb contusion while stealing second base in the fifth inning, and manager Aaron Boone said that closer was unable to appear due to hamstring discomfort. Both players will be evaluated in New York during Monday’s off-day.

Domínguez downplayed the injury, saying: “I don’t think there’s much concern about it. We’re going to see [Monday] how it goes. Right now, I think there is nothing to worry about. … Right now, I’m feeling better already.”

The stolen base occurred with Anthony Volpe at the plate, facing Anthony Banda with none out. Sliding headfirst, Domínguez beat the play but jammed his left thumb on the base; Domínguez wears a protective guard on his right hand but not his left, and said he may consider now wearing gear on both hands.

Boone said he was preparing to go to Weaver in the ninth inning with the Yankees leading by three runs; LeMahieu’s fourth hit of the game made it a four-run game, but Boone indicated he still planned to use Weaver in a non-save situation.

“He felt something when he had finished warming up, and then when he went to stretch, he felt something in the middle of his hammy,” Boone said. “So we had to make a switch on the fly there. We’re hoping it’s not too serious.”

Tim Hill recorded the final three outs in place of Weaver, who has a 1-1 record and 1.05 ERA in 24 appearances this season, including eight saves in nine opportunities. Weaver began the season as a setup man for Devin Williams, and has been stellar since returning to the closer’s role he assumed last September leading into the postseason.

“We’ll see what we have when we get home,” Boone said.
