The stars shined bright on a busy Saturday around the Minors, led by a number of Top 100 prospects. Travis Bazzana (Guardians) notched a professional first, while Konnor Griffin (Pirates) joined an exclusive club with his 20th homer. On the mound it was a night for debuts as a trio of 2025 first-rounders -- Liam Doyle (Cardinals), Kruz Schoolcraft (Padres) and Gage Wood (Phillies) -- all delivered their first pitches and flashed promise in their opening acts.
Travis Bazzana, 2B, Columbus (CLE No. 1/MLB No. 15)
A rough August has given way to a hot start in September for Bazzana, who put together his best all-around game of the season. Last year's first overall Draft pick collected his first multihomer game as a pro and drove in three runs on the strength of his second three-hit contest in three games. Bazzana has been hot lately, going 10-for-32 with his first three Triple-A jacks, five extra-base hits and six RBIs in his past eight games for Columbus. Full story | Gameday
Konnor Griffin, SS/OF, Altoona (PIT No. 1/MLB No. 1)
Griffin added another impressive notch on his belt, cracking his 20th homer of the season and fourth in his past seven games for Double-A Altoona. Coupled with his 65 stolen bases, Griffin became just the second Minor Leaguer since 2005 (Jonatan Clase, 2023) to hit 20-plus roundtrippers and steal 60-plus bases in one season. The first-year pro is slashing .329/.415/.529 with 112 runs scored and 90 RBIs across three Minor League levels. Gameday
Leo De Vries, SS, Midland (ATH No. 1/MLB No. 3)
De Vries broke out in a big way for Double-A Midland, launching his first Texas League homer and finishing with his first four-hit game since tallying five on April 22 for High-A Fort Wayne. The youngest player at the Double-A level at just 18 years old, De Vries was not hitting particularly well since his promotion, but he was getting on base with nine walks in his first 13 contests for the RockHounds, helping push his OBP to .354 in 111 games. Ethan Holliday, SS, Fresno (COL No. 1/MLB No. 17)
Holliday hammered his second pro homer and fell a triple shy of the cycle while reaching base safely four times to snap a 2-for-18 slide. In a twist of fate only baseball can supply, the 18-year-old went deep roughly 15 minutes before his older brother Jackson Holliday left the yard with two outs in the ninth for the Orioles to break up Yoshinobu Yamamoto's no-hitter. The younger Holliday has reached safely in 15 of his first 17 games for Single-A Fresno. Full story | Gameday
Liam Doyle, LHP, Palm Beach (STL No. 2/MLB No. 33)
Doyle's anticipated pro debut was a mixed bag, but the southpaw showed why he was one of the most highly regarded hurlers in this year's Draft. The 21-year-old worked 1 2/3 innings and struck out three, including the first batter he faced for Single-A Palm Beach. Doyle topped out at 98.4 mph and also picked off a runner while surrendering a solo homer and two walks. Gameday
Eduardo Quintero, OF, Great Lakes (LAD No. 4/MLB No. 53)
Quintero looks to be finding a comfort level at High-A after going deep for a second consecutive game and for the third time in four contests. The 19-year-old led off the game with his fifth roundtripper for Great Lakes and his 19th across two Minor League levels. Quintero enjoyed a solid first full-season campaign in 2024 but has taken his production to another level this season, slashing .295/.413/.510 with 48 extra-base hits, 98 runs scored, 69 RBIs and 46 stolen bases in 112 games. Alfredo Duno, C, Daytona (CIN No. 3/MLB No. 72)
One night after establishing a new club record with his 80th RBI, Duno was back at it for Single-A Daytona. The 19-year-old backstop went yard for a second consecutive game and for the third time in his past four to give him 18 this season. Duno's breakout campaign has also made him one of the most dangerous hitters in the Florida State League which he leads in homers, doubles (32), extra-base hits (52), RBIs (81), walks (95), SLG (.518) and OPS (.948), while batting .287. Kruz Schoolcraft, LHP, Lake Elsinore (SD No. 2/MLB No. 97)
Schoolcraft was the second Top 100 prospect to make his pro debut, joining the Cardinals' Liam Doyle. Like his fellow first-rounder, the 18-year-old Schoolcraft flashed his ace-like potential, striking out four over 1 2/3 innings for Single-A Lake Elsinore. Drafted 25th overall out of Sunset High School in Portland, Ore., the 6-foot-8 southpaw picked up 10 whiffs against nine batters in his debut. Gameday
Gage Wood, RHP, Clearwater (PHI No. 4)
Wood was as advertised in his pro debut after going 26th overall in this year's Draft. The Arkansas product overcame a shaky first inning to rack up five strikeouts across two frames, including six whiffs on 13 swings. Wood consistently sat in the mid 90s with his fastball, topping out at 97 mph. Gameday
