Thomas White (Marlins) led the way during a pitching-rich Saturday evening around the Minors. The Top 100 prospect continued his dominant and dazzling 2025 campaign and was joined by fellow southpaws Hagen Smith (White Sox), Quinn Mathews (Cardinals) and Sam Aldegheri (Angels), who all turned in ace-like efforts. Brandon Sproat (Mets) and Brendan Beck (Yankees) dueled one another at Triple-A, nearly matching each other pitch for pitch, while on the offensive side, Dante Nori (Phillies) filled up the box score and 2025 first-rounder Marek Houston (Twins) notched a professional first.
Thomas White, LHP, Pensacola (MIA No. 1/MLB No. 21)
White will be sorry to see the month come to a close after the southpaw twirled his second consecutive scoreless outing and fourth in six starts going back to July 26. White struck out 10 and did not allow a hit over five innings which lowered his ERA to 1.59 in 10 starts for Double-A Pensacola and 1.07 in August. It was the second double-digit strikeout performance of the season for the 20-year-old, who has a career-high 128 punchouts in 80 1/3 innings across two Minor League levels. Gameday
Hagen Smith, LHP, Birmingham (CWS No. 5/MLB No. 90)
Smith finished off August with a gem, spinning five scoreless frames and striking out eight in his best start for Double-A Birmingham since early May. The fifth overall pick in last year's Draft allowed a pair of singles -- both in the fourth inning -- while tossing 66 pitches (41 strikes). Smith, who missed more than six weeks with left elbow soreness, has a 4.50 ERA in 11 starts since he returned to action on June 28. Gameday
Brandon Sproat, RHP, Syracuse (NYM No. 5)
After struggling out of the bullpen in his previous outing, Sproat rebounded with one of his best starts for Triple-A Syracuse. The Florida product equaled a season high with nine punchouts and worked seven scoreless innings for the second time this year. Sproat generated 14 whiffs on 43 swings (32.6 percent) while tossing 91 pitches (58 strikes). The 24-year-old has a 1.79 ERA and a 66/19 K/BB ratio across 55 1/3 innings in his past 10 starts. Quinn Mathews, LHP, Memphis (STL No. 5)
Mathews put the finishing touches on a strong August by tossing 5 1/3 scoreless frames for Triple-A Memphis. The Stanford product and 2023 fourth-rounder struck out seven and allowed just two hits to finish the month with a 2.27 ERA in six starts. Mathews missed more than a month earlier this season but has been one of the Cardinals' strongest Minor League hurlers since, posting a 2.96 ERA while fanning 85 in 67 frames across 15 starts since June 6. Gameday
Dante Nori, OF, Jersey Shore (PHI No. 6)
Playing in just his fifth game since his promotion to High-A Jersey Shore, Nori erupted for arguably his best performance as a pro. Philadelphia's first-round pick in 2024 (27th overall) tallied his third four-hit game of the season and swiped a career-high four bases while reaching safely in all five plate appearances. Nori has put together a solid first full season as a pro, batting .271 with a .372 OBP and 47 stolen bases in 54 attempts across two Minor League levels. Gameday
Marek Houston, SS, Cedar Rapids (MIN No. 8)
Houston has yet to tally more than one hit in any of his first nine games since he was promoted to High-A Cedar Rapids, but his lone knock was one to remember. The 16th overall pick in last month's Draft out of Wake Forest skied his first pro homer in his 21st game. Although Houston has struggled out of the game for the Kernels, he is still batting .289 with six extra-base hits and 11 RBIs overall thanks to a hot start for Single-A Fort Myers where he began his pro career at the beginning of August. Gameday
Brendan Beck, RHP, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (NYY No. 11)
Beck took a hard-luck loss in his matchup with Sproat, despite allowing just one run and one hit over seven innings for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 26-year-old equaled a career high with nine punchouts and set down 15 consecutive batters to complete seven innings for the first time in 33 pro appearances. Beck is tied for second in the Minors with 12 wins and sports a 3.11 ERA and an 0.99 WHIP in 23 outings (21 starts) across two Minor League levels. Gameday
Sam Aldegheri, LHP, Rocket City (LAA No. 14)
Aldegheri harkened back to a bygone era of pitching, completing a career-high eight scoreless frames for Double-A Rocket City. The 23-year-old struck out six, surrendered four hits and did not walk a batter during his 101-pitch outing. Aldegheri, who allowed two baserunners over his final four innings, finished with a 2.84 ERA across five starts in August. Gameday
