'The Summer I Turned Pretty' stars bring drama to the diamond to talk ball

Forget Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah, the biggest rivalry is and always has been Red Sox vs. Yankees.

Just ask “The Summer I Turned Pretty” stars Chris Briney and Sean Kaufman, who left Cousins Beach behind on Saturday and stopped by Yankee Stadium to take in New York’s game against Boston and answer some baseball-themed questions.

Briney, who stars as Conrad Fisher on the hit TV show, has been a Red Sox fan since age 5, when he first saw Nomar Garciaparra play. Kaufman, who plays Steven Conklin, “came out of my mother’s womb … wearing a Yankees hat.”

The two dished on everything from their current favorite players (Jarren Duran for Briney and Aaron Judge for Kaufman) to what their walk-up songs would be (surprisingly no Taylor Swift mentioned). Neither commented on which team his character would root for, but we’d guess Conrad might have a soft spot for the Braves’ peach-themed Double-A affiliate, the Columbus Clingstones.

As for their favorite ballpark foods, Briney sang the praises of Fenway Franks, while Kaufman said he prefers the chicken bucket at Yankee Stadium. No one tell Jeremiah that you can’t get a two-tier dark chocolate cake with a raspberry coulis filling and a mirror glaze on top at the ballpark.

While there’s assuredly still plenty of drama in store in the remaining episodes of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” it can’t hurt that Conrad now has the Red Sox’s official support as he declares his love for Belly (no, not that Belli). And the Red Sox and Yankees will hope Briney and Kaufman can be good luck charms as they each chase a postseason berth ... and a ring much bigger than Belly's engagement ring.
