Shane Victorino & Milt Thompson Among Special Guests at Phillies Phundamentals Summer Camp
What a fun day at the ballpark for area youngsters attending Phillies Phundamentals Summer Camp sponsored by Chick-fil-A Greater Philadelphia!
On Wednesday, July 30, more than 100 children from Philadelphia Parks & Recreation’s summer program made a special trip to Citizens Bank Park, where they went behind-the-scenes with the Phillies and special guests.
Highlights included a welcome from the Phillie Phanatic, all before campers went on a ballpark tour with educational stops along the way. Tour stops included the team’s Pioneers in Pinstripes display, where they learned about the history of Phillies pioneers from 2008 World Series champion coach and 1993 National League champion Milt Thompson, who is featured in the display himself!
Campers also had the chance to make their best home run call with help from Phillies manager of broadcasting Rob Brooks in the team’s broadcast booth, as well as pretend to be a member of the media, with guidance from Phillies baseball communications coordinator Elyssa Kaplan in the media room.
Another fun moment was taking part in a Q&A with 2008 World Series champion Shane Victorino, who met with campers after a tasty Chick-fil-A lunch. The day culminated with playing ball in the Yard, and ice cream treats for all.
The visit was part of Phillies Phundamentals, sponsored by Chick-fil-A Greater Philadelphia and held in partnership with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, which is a summer camp program for children 6-12 years old that uses baseball to teach and reinforce academic skills.
