NEW YORK -- The Mets honored MLB's own Sarah Langs -- baseball researcher extraordinaire -- with their Amazin' Mets Foundation Legacy Award on Wednesday in a special pregame ceremony at Citi Field.

"To hear such kind words about my work echoing through an MLB park is beyond anything I could have dreamed of as a little, baseball-obsessed kid in the stands and watching on TV," Langs said.

Langs, who is battling ALS, is an inspiration to everyone in the baseball world. She's not just a brilliant researcher. She's also become a powerful voice for ALS awareness and research.

And most importantly, her love of baseball is unparalleled. Everyone knows Langs' motto by now: "Baseball is the best!"

Langs is the third annual recipient of the Mets' Legacy Award, which celebrates those in the baseball community who make a difference and drive change on and off the field.

Before Wednesday's game against the Guardians, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza -- wearing an "End ALS" T-shirt -- met with Langs and her family and presented her with her own Mets jersey.

Langs was then honored on the field, including a video tribute to her on the Citi Field scoreboard and Mets owner Alex Cohen making a $5,000 donation to Project ALS in her name. Langs' father, Charles, threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Mets center fielder Tyrone Taylor.

"I'm so very grateful to Mrs. Cohen and everyone involved for choosing to honor me and making a generous donation to ALS research," Langs said. "I appreciate the recognition of my work, above everything else."

The Amazin' Mets Foundation's first Legacy Award was given to former All-American Girls Professional Baseball League player Maybelle Blair in 2023, and last year's award was given to the Warriors Amputee Baseball Team.

The Mets have previously honored Langs on Lou Gehrig Day in 2023. The Phillies did the same last year. And MLB recognized her at the 2024 All-MLB Awards Show in Las Vegas, where Langs got a standing ovation.

Two things are true: Baseball is the best, and you can never celebrate Sarah Langs too much.
